Short Engines

V8 Developments Short Engines

A short engine is classified as;

Cylinder block, crankshaft, rods and pistons, assembled and fitted with necessary bearings, gaskets and rings. The short engine does not normally have a camshaft fitted or contain any other engine components unless specified in the description. Prices are exclusive of VAT and carriage and are listed on an exchange basis.

4.6 Short Engine

These engines are built around a top hat liner cylinder block. This completely removes the possibility of block 'porosity' causing pressurisation of the water system. The 4.6 engine is a very versatile power plant and can offer BHP output as high as 330BHP when matched with the right components. All of our short engines come lightened an balanced with pocketed pistons. Contrary to many opinions the 4.6 engine can be used to replace units from 3.5 right through to 5.0.

5.0 Short Engine

This is a new generation 5.0 litre engine with upgraded components to avoid the 'brittle' crank syndrome found in TVR 5.0 units. The crankshaft is large journal lightened and balanced and is combined with custom made 96mm pistons and length matched rods to produce a far stronger version of the 5.0 litre engine. As with all new builds we create, the cylinder block is fitted with Top Hat liners to add to engine security. Standardly expected to produce in the region of 300BHP and 320ft/lb of torque when matched with stage III heads and a suitable camshaft. Ideal replacement for TVR Griffith and Chimaera or as a new build for any car.

5.3 Short Engine

The 5.3 litre engine is one of the most dynamically proven engines on the market today. The cross drilled 91.5mm crankshaft is combined with H-Beam steel rods and bespoke forged pistons to produce a manageble 5.3 litre engine capable of power outputs in excess of 400BHP. The more interesting figures are those for torque. This engine, when married to the correct heads and camshaft, will produce 380ft/lb of torque and manage to keep above 300ft/lb between 2000 and 5000 rpm! This makes it an ideal 'load puller' or off road race engine, whilst adding a fast road camshaft will transform the engine into a sports car enthusiasts' dream.
