Cylinder Heads

Staged Heads

Standard Rover V8 Heads offer a great deal of scope for improvement. A skilled hand can modify the ports to promote greater air flow and maximise port speed. Chambers offer a further improvement through a shaping and capacity matching process. Standard valves are a little small for performance applications and again we seek improvements in this area.

Porting

As previously mentioned we employ the services of a very well respected cylinder head development specialist who undertakes all of our head porting and polishing. Experience has taught us that the modifications required to enhance performance are varied depending on the application and engine capacity and for this reason we offer a design service to give the best results for each customers needs. The purpose of head porting is of course to increase the amount of air that the cylinder can draw in a given time but also to improve the flow characteristics of that air so that fuel mixes well and so that the fuel air mixture enters the cylinder seamlessly.

All of our head porting is done by hand! Each port is polished and shaped to match the requirements of the engine to which they will be fitted. We do sell a stock version of say a stage 3 cylinder head but would always recommend that the customer gives us an idea of the application and a chamber size requirement for compression ratio matching. Each pair of cylinder heads we produce is catalogued and identified so that an equivalent can be reproduced should one become damaged by an engine failure at a later date and records are normally kept for a minimum of 5 years.

Guides & Valves

As can be seen in the images shown above, the porting is only one part of the modification process. We use shortened bulleted guides for all staged heads above stage 1. These assist with air flow in the port and are the latest 'sintered' steel guides with a machined boss for the late type stem seal. Valves are replaced with either stage 3, 4 or 5 sizes to match the size of the inlet and exhaust ports and also the designed usage of the cylinder heads. Valve springs are also changed although this will be discussed more fully in the camshaft section of these pages. The valve seats are recut to accomodate the larger valves and a 3 angle seat is applied to maximise power output.

If you require further information of our cylinder head developments or would like to discuss the design as it may be applied to your engine then please do not hesitate to call or e-mail , we are always glad to offer advice or discuss options. For pricing please see the Heads section of the drop down menu above.
