V8 Developments offers an engine dyno service. This service has two main functions:
The first is to allow customers who are purchasing engines from us to have the engine fully 'run in' and tested prior to dispatch. This is a highly recommended option as it means that the engine is ready to 'use' to its full ability and rev range as soon as it is fitted. It also means that the power output of the engine is a known quantity and the fitted ancillaries and fuelling system (often supplied by the customer) are fully functional and have a basic setup that is known to work well. The service includes the supply of running-in oil to properly seat the piston rings and bearings, a full engine report - including power graph - and a specification of the components used in the build.
The second function is for customers wishing to test an existing engine either to identify a fault or to test the power output. This subsequently leads to investigation into improvements and upgrades that are available for the engine and recommendations as to actions that may be beneficial. We use a Schenck Hydraulic dynamometer which very accurately measures the power output of the engine and also allows us to vary the load on the engine so that the best run-in procedure can be undertaken.
