A long engine is simply the next stage of construction along from a short engine. The long engine comprises;

Cylinder block, Crankshaft, Rods, Pistons and Cylinder Heads and is fully assembled with appropriate gaskets, rings and bearings. This does

A long engine should not be confused with a full engine.

The long engines all look very similar and are therefore categorised by a single photograph and links to there respective short engines. Long engines may be supplied with a number of different cylinder head combinations. Please specify your application to determine the type of cylinder heads fitted and compression ratio that results.

3.5 & 3.9 Long Engine - Standard

This a 3.5 or 3.9 engine with the addition of standard cylinder heads. These would normally come built to a compression ratio of 9.35:1 and the cylinder heads will be 3/3 or 3/4 bolt pattern to support a standard front cover configuration.

4.6 Long Engine - Standard

This a 4.6 short engine with the addition of standard cylinder heads. This would normally come built to a compression ratio of 9.35:1 and the cylinder heads will be 4/4 bolt pattern to support a 'serpentine' front cover configuration.

5.0 and 5.3 Long Engines

Depending upon the chosen application and the 5.0 and 5.3 long engine is usually built with stage III or stage IV cylinder heads and to a compression ratio of approximately 10:1.
